i never wash my hands i never heed the cleansing i stage parades and then i make sure that my hands are dirty i wave from passing floats stick out my filthy paws you sit on sidelines, gawking watching as your hands are hidden clean and you will stay inside tonight you can’t deny that it’s your fate the choice to swim or merely sink is simply not your choice to make i’m dunking heads in velvet water so they’ll breathe you’re sending out an sos to all the ships at sea i’ll build my flower tigers and hope you’ll never let them fade oh vanish, cover, camouflage and i the spotlight operate and you will stay inside tonight you can’t refuse it, it’s your fate the choice to swim or, screaming, sink is simply not your choice to make (deleted verse) it’s getting late there is no time for arguments so what, you’ll just walk through the palace gates and confront this? and if you find them locked you'll burn the metal down? can you redefine the elements? well, aren’t you sorry now

about

This is my first real home recording project in 11 years, which is half of the 22 years that have elapsed since I started multi-tracking at home as a method of performing, composing, arranging and producing music.

Thanks to the generosity of my friend Nick Stargu, who lent me both his digital multi-track machine and his drum machine, and others who lent or gave (listed below).

Everything on this EP is original (except the title of “[Four Words Heavily Crossed Out] A Secret Corridor—“ which I have taken from the text of Nabokov’s PALE FIRE, and the title of "Wolves and Coyotes" which I have taken from an overheard conversation).

The first song fades up for a while. Volume is encouraged once established.

CREDITS

I sang into a Electro-Voice Co9 Cobalt microphone that I purchased for a short-lived podcasting project (produced by Kalen Egan and Travis Sentell), and played:
* a Novation Mininova keyboard (gifted to me a few years ago by the members of Spencer Owen Timeshare),
* a Korg T1 keyboard (recently passed down to me by my dad),
* a Fender Precision Bass (borrowed from Michael Ulrich),
* an egg shaker,
* and a tambourine.
I programmed the beats on Nick’s Boss Dr. Rhythm DR-770 drum machine.

I recorded songs using Nick’s Roland VS-1880 digital multitrack recorder, and mixed them on that machine live, through a Behringer Xenyx 302USB mixer into Audacity on my company MacBook Pro. I "mastered" the EP using the iTunes equalizer and Audio Hijack.

I took the cover photo on a trip to the Huntington in San Marino, CA (sponsored by my parents) and did the layout on Pixlr X.

"I can't remember my phone number.
All the calls I get are mistakes.
And I holler and make no noise."
